How to Care for Granite Countertops
Granite is a popular countertop option for homeowners who remodel their kitchens. It is low maintenance and remains durable and attractive. Follow these steps to keep your granite in good condition:
Daily Maintenance
Wet a soft cloth with warm water and add a few drops of dishwashing liquid or antibacterial detergent to clean the granite countertop. Then rinse with clean water and use another soft cloth to dry the countertop. For any spills, use a paper towel or a soft cloth to blot it and avoid wiping, as this spreads the spill.
Avoid Extremes
Prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures may harm the granite. Do not leave hot pots and pans on the stone for longer periods of time. Also, do not use the countertop as a cutting surface. Use mats or trivets under ceramic or any other object that may scratch the surface.
